A newborn baby girl was found alive in a plastic bag on the side of a Georgia road after nearby residents heard her cries and called the police.

Police rescued the infant on June 6 and released the bodycam footage on Tuesday with the hopes someone would step forward and identify the newborn, reported ABC News. For the time being, authorities are referring to her as Baby India.

The abandoned newborn was reportedly found in good condition with a strong cry. Police wrapped her in a shirt until paramedics arrived and she was then taken to a local hospital.

“It was obvious that the baby was a newborn. We believe within hours of our discovery that the baby had been born,” Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said during a news conference. Baby India still had her umbilical cord attached when she was recovered.

“Georgia Safe Haven Law allows a mother up to 30 days after the birth of an infant to drop that infant off at a hospital, a fire station, a police station, a sheriff’s station,” Freeman said. “And as long as they turn it over to a person, a live human being, they cannot be charged with abandonment, cruelty to children. It is a way to make sure that a child like this is safely cared for.”

Baby India is currently being cared for by the local children’s services, but the Sheriff’s office noted that it has received a large number of calls asking to adopt her.
