YouTube has deleted videos from Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s channel for what it says is disseminating misleading information about the coronavirus spread, making it the second internet behemoth to censor the Brazilian President.

The President has come under fire for opposing lockdowns, promoting hydroxychloroquine and being skeptical about the effectiveness of mask-wearing.

YouTube said in a response that its standards do not allow material that claims hydroxychloroquine and/or ivermectin is efficacious in curing or eradicating Covid-19 or that claims masks do not function to prevent the transmission of the virus.

Last year, Bolsonaro’s videos were taken down by Twitter and Facebook for violating their terms & conditions after he made statements that contradicted the World Health Organization.

Bolsonaro’s weekly national speeches are events where he accepts questions from the audience and are broadcast on YouTube.

He routinely expresses his concerns about the nature of the disease, the folly of lockdowns, and the speculations about various treatments, which are also broadcast on his Facebook page.
