Taking on the American War Machine

I recently appeared on Conflicts of Interest with Kyle Anzalone to talk about Defend the Guard legislation and the national debt. While these may seem like totally unrelated subjects, they both tie into America’s unconstitutional war machine.

In the first half of the show, we discuss Defend the Guard, legislation that would require governors to limit the deployment of state National Guard units — the militia — only under the conditions authorized by the Constitution. I explain how the passage of Defend the Guard would help restrain U.S. foreign policy and potentially restore constitutional war powers. I also talk about why never-ending war is incompatible with limited government and liberty.

In the last half of the show, Kyle and I talk about the ever-growing national debt and how the Federal Reserve facilitates it. I point out that without the Fed backstopping the borrowing and spending, the U.S. would no longer be able to act like a global military empire.

The post Taking on the American War Machine first appeared on Tenth Amendment Center.
