I just wanted to say that I love your show and you have as many other have said, been keeping me sane during the pandemic. Seeing the liberties that were provided to us by the constitution being stripped away from us is disturbing and I feel like I am not sure what to do next. To start I will tell you a bit about myself.
I am a 21 year old university student in Colorado. I have been a libertarian for quite some time now but I was never really political. I guess for me I was “radicalized” this past year. I remember it started when they were talking about shutting down everything back in March. I remember telling all of my friends that they cannot tell us to stay inside because of our first amendment rights and that the government has no right to do that. Even my “conservative” friends told me that if the government told me to do that I had to do it because the government said so. When they shut down our school for the semester, I went to be with my parents in Florida to watch the tyrants of Pinellas County shut everything down. I could not believe my eyes.
It has been frustrating talking to my friends and I am not even a political person. I personally have lost a lot of hope that there is any future for liberty. Government tyranny has taken over all aspects of life. Places like the church and places of gathering have shut their doors. And I keep hearing the same things whenever I express the slightest concern.
“It’s not that hard. It’s just a mask.”
“In times of emergency…”
“They are only trying to help.”
“If everyone had just worn masks/stayed inside/done what they were told we would have been out of this months ago.”
“You are just being selfish. You want grandma to die.”
It never ends. It has been people like you, Dr. Paul, and other great libertarians that have kept me sane. But I struggle. I see no path out of this. I am a year from finishing school and I am trying to plan the next steps.
So I ask: What hope should a person like me have for the future of liberty, either in the United States or abroad? And what steps should a young libertarian take to protect himself and possibly make a difference?
