Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador claimed Monday that U.S. authorities had no role in the capture of a cartel kingpin who allegedly killed a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent decades ago.
Rafael Caro-Quintero previously led the Guadalajara cartel and was allegedly responsible for the kidnapping and killing of DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in 1985, according to the DEA. The FBI later placed Caro-Quintero’s name on its most wanted list with a reward of up to $20 million, according to the bureau.
