Democrats warn Meta not to rollback any “misinformation” policies

Democrat lawmakers sent a letter to warning the platform not to stop censorship.

In a letter to Meta’s president of global affairs Nick Clegg, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Reps. Andre Carson (D-IN), Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Kathy Castor (D-FL) hinted at Congressional action if Facebook attempts to “alter or rollback certain misinformation policies.”

Meanwhile, House Republicans have vowed to investigate social media companies over censorship when they take control of the House in January.

The letter also notes that “unlike other major social media platforms, Meta’s policies do not prohibit posts that make unsubstantiated claims about voter fraud.” The letter also called on the company to preserve bans on public figures like former President .

After former CEO Jack Dorsey apologized for censoring the Hunter Biden laptop story in a senate hearing, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said that Congress would not condone any “backsliding or retrenching” by “failing to take action against dangerous disinformation.”
