Kristen Clarke, the nominee to lead the Justice Department’s civil rights division, circulated an essay written by Amiri Baraka, in which the controversial poet defended cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal and compared the police to the KKK.
Clarke forwarded Baraka’s essay to her mentor at Columbia University, and suggested that it be used in a magazine and at a conference on race and the death penalty.
