Google-owned video sharing platform YouTube temporarily suspended the channel run by the organization behind the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) over a video featuring Trump. YouTube claimed the video contained “medical misinformation.”
The YouTube channel of the American Conservative Union (ACU), which organizes CPAC, was slapped with a 7-day suspension, over a video it uploaded on July 9 featuring Trump announcing his lawsuit against the Big Tech companies that suspended his social media accounts after the Jan. 6 riot.
As a result of the suspension, ACU could not livestream any content from last weekend’s CPAC 2021 event held in Dallas.
“It is clear that YouTube censored CPAC because we stood with former President Donald Trump on his lawsuit against Big Tech,” said the chairman of the ACU Matt Schlapp. “This is yet another example of Big Tech censoring content with which they disagree in order to promote the political positions they favor.”
According to the organization, YouTube notice of the suspension said the video was removed for violating its policies on “medical misinformation,” but did not detail how the policies were violated.
“ACU believes YouTube was offended by sound medical research conducted by the Smith Center for Infectious Diseases & Urban Health and Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Former President Donald Trump referenced the study in the video that YouTube removed, saying, ‘doctors and medical groups have been barred from these platforms for posting about therapeutics such as hydroxychloroquine,’” the organization said in a statement. “Google’s political biases heavily influence YouTube’s definitions of ‘misinformation’ and that the political beliefs of Google executives take priority over the free speech rights of Google users.”
