Russia’s internet censorship agency Roskomnadzor has blocked the official website of the de-facto opposition leader Alexey Navalny who has been targeted by Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. In February, Navalny was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for “violating probation.”
According to a report shared on Telegram channel Team Navalny, on Monday, July 26, the website navalny.com was blocked by Roskomnadzor. The website now displays an error message that claims the website was blocked because it “contains information, the distribution of which is prohibited in the Russian Federation.”
One of the most recent reports on navalny.com was an investigation into the wealth of State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and his family.
The Roskomnadzor service for verifying the status of a website revealed that the blacking request for navalny.com came from the office of the Attorney General.
Speaking to MBX Media, Leonid Volkov, Navalny’s chief of staff, said the reason for the blocking of the website was unclear.
Team Navalny also noted that Roskomnadzor has already blocked 47 websites affiliated to the imprisoned leader of opposition.
