The daughter of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Almanzo Wilder, Rose Wilder Lane was born on this day in 1896. Her years of growing up on the prairie instilled in Lane a sense of rugged individualism and self-reliance that ultimately found their way into her writings throughout the 20th century.
