Drama queens and authoritarians everywhere must be disappointed.

It turns out a California teen who was supposed to be “the first teenager in the United States to die from COVID-19” had other complications not originally reported.

Hours after California’s Governor and Chief-Authoritarian Gavin Newsom cited the death of the teenager as evidence the virus can strike anyone, Los Angeles County has issued a new statement:

Though early tests indicated a positive result for COVID-19, the case is complex and there may be an alternate explanation for this fatality.

Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris in the Mojave Desert city where the boy died told the Los Angeles Times he suffered septic shock, a reaction to a widespread infection that can cause dangerously low blood pressure and organ failure.
