Yelp moves to normalize vaccine passports

Capitalizing on the erosion of civil liberties, Yelp announced two new features businesses can add on their profiles. One of the features allows businesses to say whether their employees have been vaccinated, and the other allows businesses to say whether they require customers to show a vaccine passport.

The features will enable customers to avoid (or find) businesses with strict COVID-19 policies.

In the early days of the pandemic, Yelp introduced features allowing businesses to say whether they provide contact-free or virtual services. Later businesses were allowed to list other safety measures, such as face mask policies for staff and outdoor dining.

Because COVID-19 measures and vaccinations are controversial, Yelp has been actively censoring or deleting reviews to prevent the ratings of a business from being affected by the pandemic-related choices they make.

Yelp’s embracing of the controversial vaccine passport follows states such as New York telling businesses to introduce vaccine passports.
