In a new documentary series for UK’s Channel 4, British comedy icon John Cleese will explore cancel culture.

The series dubbed “John Cleese: Cancel Me,” will see the Monty Python and Fawlty Towers actor “explore why a new ‘woke’ generation is trying to rewrite the rules on what can and can’t be said.”

There has been an increasing trend of trying to destroy brands or people whose behavior is perceived as offensive to some in recent years.

In the 1970s, Cleese became famous with Graham Chapman, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Sir Michael Palin as co-founder of the Monty Python comedies.

The comedian questions if it is possible to produce comedy these days without offending people, and he meets some renowned personalities who have been victims of cancel culture, as well as the cancel mobs to find out what is motivating them.

The British comedy legend has previously addressed the stifling effects of the political correction on creativity, saying there is no “woke joke.”

The Chief content officer of Channel 4, Ian Katz had this to say on the matter: “The argument over what it’s OK to say and what isn’t is one of the thorniest issues of our age and there are few people better equipped to stride into it than John, a comic legend who combines genuine curiosity with a healthy disregard for what anyone thinks of him.”
