Just one day before Florida’s primary election, Twitter suspended the account of Republican candidate Dr. Drew Montez Clark. Before the suspension, Dr. Montez Clark had said Congress is not doing enough to address Big Tech and changes to protections for tech platforms would be on his agenda if he is elected.

“Something I haven’t heard anyone talk about in a while is Big Tech. Big Tech still needs to be addressed and a hearing in front of Congress isn’t enough to get it done. Section 230 will be on the agenda!” read one of Dr. Montez Clark’s last tweets before the suspension.

Twitter’s notice said the account had been permanently suspended for breaking “Twitter rules.” Dr. Montez Clark has the option to appeal the decision.

To some, including Republican Rep. Byron Donalds, the ban was politically motivated and a case of election interference.

“As the Democrats so eloquently say, this is a ‘threat to Democracy.’ Dr. Drew Montez Clark, a Republican, is running to unseat a Democrat in a predominantly blue district. Yet, @Twitter is actively committing blatant election interference (AGAIN) the day before his primary” Rep. Donalds tweeted.
